However, I've also sort-of-proved (?) this isn't a windows issue (at least not exclusively), because connected to a different internet connection (4G/HSDPA modem instead of Public Wifi) and using the same VPN - it all works properly. In powershell/cmd I can change to that drive, but typing dir causes the same hang. But double clicking the drive in explorer causes it to hang then time out, reporting it's not accessible.

I can even unmount and remount the share and explorer is showing me the correct free remaining space on the device - like it's partially working.

When a Windows 10 computer tries to connect to the file share while connected to VPN, the file share does have a firewall log entry that shows that computer is reaching the server.

I did not configure anything in pfSense for PIA, just downloaded the desktop software on a Windows 10 PC, installed it and left it running downloading overnight and two days in a row my internet disconnects.Д«efore buying PIA recently, I had/have another VPN service that I ran on another separate computer and the internet slowed down throughout the home/network for other systems, but never locked up and stopped the entire internet from working altogether. Not using PIA VPN through WiFi, the system is hard-wired on the LAN.

I tested this on two different days, and I woke up to no internet on any computer or device on my network. When I connect to the PIA VPN via the Windows 10 client, my internet gets disconnected after several hours and requires unplugging the cable modem to get my internet connection back up and working.
